We are saddened to learn of the passing of Jack White, the prolific German music producer who shaped international pop hits across decades, at the age of 85. White produced several of Laura's most enduring recordings, including the unforgettable anthems "Gloria" and "Self Control," songs that showcase Laura's soaring vocals against White's dramatic, synth-driven arrangements. Their partnership helped propel Laura to global stardom. It was White who brought Laura her 1982 breakout hit and signature song "Gloria," having been keenly aware of the song's European success as a hit in 1979 for its singer/songwriter Umberto Tozzi. Turning to Europe again with "Self Control" (1984), originally recorded by its songwriter Raf, White recognized the song's international potential and helped adapt it for Laura, pairing her emotive delivery with a sleek, synth‑driven production that gave it a cinematic feel. "Self Control" went on to become Laura's biggest international hit. White produced Laura's first four albums - BRANIGAN, BRANIGAN 2, SELF CONTROL, and HOLD ME.
White's iconic collaborations with Laura are central to his legacy, as well as hers. Her powerful voice and dramatic style found a perfect match in White’s production, as he produced and co-wrote the arrangements that fused European synth-pop with American vocal dynamism, leaving an indelible mark on the era’s soundscape. White understood Laura's fire, her vulnerability, and her ability to turn a lyric into a story you could feel in your soul. His dramatic, polished sound gave Laura’s powerhouse voice the stage it deserved, and the songs they created still light up dance floors and hearts around the world. Those records remain timeless.
