During Laura's time studying acting at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York City in the early 1970's, she joined Walker Daniels and Chris Van Cleave as a vocalist and songwriter in 1972 to form the folk/rock band Meadow. In the mid part of that year, the group went into the studio in New York City and recorded three songs - "Here I Am," "Something Borrowed, Something Blues," and "Cane and Able." After continuing to write and compose music, as well as auditioning for various management companies and record labels, in the latter part of 1972, Meadow was signed to Paramount Records and released "Here I Am" as their first single. This song was written by Walker Daniels prior to the formation of Meadow as part of a new musical he had written titled "Blueberries Are A Way Of Life."
